Fluke Ukelele

Regular price $225.00 $0.00

The original innovative design that started it all back in 1999. Created by Dale Webb, this non-traditional take on the ukulele features a unique composite construction of wood and injection molded thermoplastic. The combination of wood soundboard and acoustically resonant thermoplastic body, yields a musical instrument with full, bright tonal qualities, is comfortable to hold, tremendously durable, and stands up on its end! It's everyone's favorite - great for travel, adventure, or music class. You don't need a separate stand with these awesome ukeleles as they sit perfectly secure on their bottom!

The concert FLUKE has a 15.5" scale length, 15 frets and overall length of 23 inches. Weight is around one pound depending on materials and options. Necks are solid maple or walnut. Standard laminate tops are hoop pine (printed or colored tops) or natural walnut. Optional solid wood tops include Adirondack red spruce or koa. Bodies are injection molded thermoplastic. Standard fretboard is molded polycarbonate, hardwood is optional. The tenor FLUKE has the same body size with a 17" scale and overall length of 24.5". Like the concert, the tenor easily accommodates GCEA tuning but can also handle the lower DGBE tuning (high D).

Both sizes can be ordered in a variety of colors and selected designs.  All Fluke models come standard with D'Addario Nyltech strings. Over 27,000 made, proudly in the USA.  Most of the solid color soundboards are 3-ply Australian hoop pine with a durable, water-based finish.

Magic Fluke intregral in mini documentary on scoring music out in nature:

The Story of The Magic Fluke Company

The Magic Fluke Co. was started by Dale and Phyllis Webb in 1999 in the basement of their home in New Hartford, Connecticut. Dale was inspired and encouraged by Phyllis’s brother Jim Beloff, an accomplished musician and guitarist who discovered the uke a few years earlier. Jim realized anyone interested in playing the uke back then had very little to choose from in the way of available music or instruments and in 1992, he incorporated as Flea Market Music and released the first of many music books and videos.

In the late 90's, armed with prototypes made with thermoformed parts from the kitchen oven, and a handful of Jim’s books and CDs, The Magic Fluke Company was born, and there was no looking back as orders started coming in, and they had to quickly tool up and start producing instruments to meet demand!

The concert Fluke started shipping in June of 1999 with three color options. Over the years, they have added dozens of new colors and designs as well as the tenor scale and various pickup options. After eight years manufacturing in an old renovated gas station in New Hartford, The Magic Fluke Company moved in 2011 to a larger solar powered facility in Sheffield Massachusetts, where they enjoy the lively music and arts vibe of the Berkshires and welcome visitors to their store and factory.

Despite unrelenting competition from imports, Magic Fluke has stuck to their promise of providing USA made, unique, affordable, quality instruments. They continue to source components and materials as close to home as possible including harvesting some of their own lumber. We at Beautiful Sounds are so happy to support this wonderful family-run business, and we heartily welcome them into our family of intuitive instrument makers!

All Magic Fluke Co. instruments including the Fluke Ukelele, Flea Ukelele and Firefly Banjo are shipped from Massachusetts directly to your door!
